Every Morning

As a fairly undisciplined person, I don’t have too many routines that I religiously follow every day.

Morning may be an exception. Besides the ordinary mechanics of getting up each day – a trip to the bathroom, stepping on the scale, checking the sleep stats from my Fitbit, and feeding the cats – my mornings are mostly free form. But this is going to change.

Routines take on new dimensions when there are others involved. Just as Thanksgiving alone is different than Thanksgiving with family.

One good indicator of a satisfying relationship is the joy that comes from making someone else a priority. As an early riser, this means making coffee and keeping it warm in a thermos. Having things ready to make a breakfast. Gathering thoughts and ideas for the day. Stealing back to bed to doze a bit more or for a wee bit more passion.

Some schools of thought say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Mrs. Hughes tells Charlie: “Always start out as you intend to go on.” So much advice is available.

I think in it’s simplest form, it comes down to one thing. Make someone happy. Make them feel loved. Make them feel secure.

This is how I want to start my day.
