Running Out of Projects

I have a small collection of model airplane kits.

I have early memories of making plastic model airplanes. My mom helped me at the kitchen table. I remember her admonishing me to read the instructions. I guess I just wanted to just glue the pieces together – thinking I could just figure it out. In reflection, perhaps it was the “doing” that mattered to me.

I’ve had a long list of projects since then. Some of those projects spawned other projects. For example, before I could tackle working on motorcycles in my garage I had to build a workbench and shelves. I like my workbench.

Over the years I’ve joked that when I run out of projects, I’ll die. Maybe that’s not a good joke. Maybe not a joke at all.

My projects have changed as I’ve aged. My projects today don’t require the physical strength they used to. I’m not exactly sure if that’s because I’ve lost some physical fitness, or I’ve just become a bit lazy. It doesn’t matter because when you get lazy you lose fitness.

I’m amazed at how strong you are. I can tell when you hold me close. I don’t think you have a lazy bone in your body. We don’t have the same priorities, but you’re the only person I know who has as many outstanding projects as I do.

Courting you means participating in some of your projects. That leaves less time for my own. But if I’m right, I’ll live a very long time.

With luck, I’ll be too busy to ever get around to building my collection of model airplane kits.
