It’s funny how our dad knew.
Both of us have special places in our hearts for our dads. Each of our dads gave us cautionary advice about partners. In hindsight, we might have been better off heeding it. But we both have stubborn streaks – and have a tendency to want to find out things for our selves. So we did.
On a rainy day your dad gave me a wonderful tour of the historic places near his home in Lotus. I could have spent an entire week without tiring of learning what he showed and shared.
Not only had your dad spent years learning about these interesting and historic places, he knew how to share about them with context that made them meaningful and memorable.
My dad had similar skill at making interesting places come alive with the things he would share.
I don’t know if I was born with the instinct to travel and explore. But both developed with Dad’s patient and encouraging travel leadership.
I think chances are good we’ll channel our dads as we explore places and life. And nothing beats having a good travel partner.
There’s no way to know what each of our dads might say about us today – or what advice they might have to offer as we explore a future. But I’m pretty sure that now, I’d follow his advice.
