I remember corporate meetings with an agenda to determine a mission statement.
That task irritated me. I’m guessing I just didn’t grasp it’s value. Today, I’m a convert.
We’ve discovered that we have a future together. Such a romantic idea should have spontaneity. Dreams. Adventure. And joy should be present – beyond any ordinary expectations.
We’re incredibly lucky.
I’m trying to decide if it makes sense to do a bit of planning. To find some sort of “north star” to guide us to our future. Perhaps due to my lack of my creativity, this makes me think of “mission statement.” How droll.
My instincts tell me that the need for planning isn’t about future activity. It’s about values. It’s about a strategy so our individual values will mesh together smoothly on the gears of our personalities.
We both recognize we have distinct values and personalities. And with that, I’ve never felt any desire that you be “more like me.” I celebrate who you are – every day. And you’ve never failed to express your love when I’m in some unexpected place.
Somewhere in the stack of books I’ve read, there’s certainly a reference to how relationships succeed by the individual’s abilities to span the gaps. We’re rehearsing on the days we notice our differences.
Maybe our mission statement should be to always make the leap.
